About the Artist
Ben Ark is a mixed media Artist based in Salford, UK
Ben’s style slips from precise photorealistic detail to less defined washes of colour. Using traditional techniques alongside digital technology he creates artworks largely featuring contemporary landscapes and urban culture.
He encourages thought about the rich and varied life of a city and stimulates conversation about how we exist within, alongside and sometimes in the face of a landscape and the secrets it holds.
Ben has been chosen as a featured artist and has 5 new artworks, created during Lockdown, on display at the Lowry Theatre and Art Gallery. 'Days Like These' is a major exhibition exploring how LS Lowry's hometown of Salford lived through lockdown. Using artwork, photographs, films and poetry contributed by some of the 245,000 residents of the city. The exhibition opened on the 1st November and will reopen once lockdown is lifted. The 5 works Ben created sit alongside a new display of the best of Salford's own LS Lowry – an artist known for his paintings of crowded city streets and vast empty landscapes.
Ben's work, is also being exhibited as part of the New Light Art exhibition, which celebrates contemporary northern art.
In addition, Ben has been chosen to exhibit at The Wales Contemporary, which opened in November. The Wales Contemporary / Cymru Gyfoes champions art from Wales and inspired by Wales.
