About the Artist
Jane Fairhurst's practice encompasses a wide range of media including, drawing, painting, mixed media, textiles, installation and performance.
A fascination with the cultures of the ancient past and their resonances in contemporary society informs much of what she makes and the role of the female throughout history is of particular interest. Working between art, anthropology and history Jane's research often dictates the media she uses to develop and transmit her ideas.
She makes artwork that uses the transformative power of art to explore issues in contemporary society be it environment, consumerism, feminism or global politics. Research is central to her practice and she gathers both visual and written information to support her ideas.
Jane is based at Cross Street Arts, Wigan, the studio group she established from 1999 and where she is a studio holder and a trustee.
