About the Artist
A studio-based artist since 1999, Fairhurst’s practice, over the years, has moved between collage, mixed media, textile sculpture, pastel and acrylic painting. More recently she has focused on developing her skills in oil painting.
Fairhurst’s painting practice is dynamic, she creates work in series and through reading, researching, gardening and walking finds herself drawn to diverse themes including textiles, found objects, still life, gardens, interiors, woodlands. In the past she has used her own multi media work as a focus for her paintings.
“I need something solid as a starting point for my paintings and make great use
of sketches and observation.”
Working in series allows her to build narratives and gives her the freedom to
explore new materials and techniques.

In 2010 Fairhurst gained an MFA with distinction from Liverpool John Moores and is an alumni of London based Turps Education having studied painting during 2023-25.
She has previously won acclaim for both her 2D and 3D work at Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk and Turnpike Gallery, Leigh. She was selected for the Greater Manchester Art Prize, the National Open art Prize, twice selected for BEEP International Painting Prize and the Newlight Summer Exhibition in 2025.
A founder member of Cross Street Arts studio group Jane exhibits in solo and mixed shows, as part of Ten Obstructions artist’s group, and is represented by Saul Hay Fine art, Manchester.
