Paul Digby Artist Bio 

Paul was born in Cleethorpes in North Lincolnshire and studied in Norwich University of the Arts and Bretton Hall/University of Leeds. Paul lived in London before returning to Leeds, where he lives with his family.
Paul has work in private colllections and the Wellcome Trust archive. He has exhibited in the Saatchi Gallery, the Wellcome Museum, Leeds Art Gallery and Manchester Contemporary. 

Statement: Paul engages with non arts sector institutions in large scale collaborative projects where he deconstructs drawing, painting and sculptural processes and disseminates concepts, methods and material usage through his practice and interactive workshops.

Sep 2016 to 2019: Transcending the Figure: A three-year Project that celebrates the public sector. I have created a series of figurative drawings and sculptures of people who work in the Emergency Services in Classical poses. This project is supported by York College, EAST Gallery NUA, East Street Arts, Arts Council England, the Emergency Services and Artforms.


Dec 2017 to Dec 2018: New Light: Northern Artists, Bowes Museum, Huddersfield Art Gallery, Tulsie House and Bankside Gallery


2008-201: Yorkshire and Humber Visual Arts Network Steering Group Member. Voluntary role helping commission artists in the region, organize and facilitate seminars and conferences, attended National and regional Debates.


January to July 2016: Mosaic Leeds: I led a series of mosaic workshops with people living with dementia, their carer’s and families. A design was transferred on to a series of ten 4/4 ft panels. Then people living with dementia and who attend ten Dementia Cafes across Leeds and a Peer Support group completed the mosaic panels in sessions. Leeds Council funded. The individual panels formed one large and colourful mosaic. Supported by Leeds Museums and Leeds Inspired.


2016: High Royds Hospital Hospital Corridor Drawing in the Wellcome Trust Archive used in Bedlam: The Asylum and Beyond, Wellcome Trust, London


Sep 2016 to January 201: figure-process-material Yorkshire Sculpture Triangle Community Engagement Programme. Artist led sessions and exhibitions based on the figure. The materials included: clay, plaster casting, wire, aluminum, felt and plaster as well as the opportunity to learn drawing techniques including Life Drawing. 


2013 to 2015: Portraits of Emotions A series of paintings and drawings of people expressing emotions of joy, anger and sadness. Funded by ACE GftA and supported by the Tetley Gallery, with a final exhibition and talk were held here in 2015. The work was also shown in Synthesis, Manchester Science Festival, University of Leeds School of Medicine, ESA Union 105 and Warren Street Pop up space and Munroe House Gallery. Funded by ACE GftA.

2005-2008: Northern Arts and Science Network: Chair and Organiser. Managing a group of specialist academics, organizing and facilitating seminars, exhibitions and conferences. Managing 37.5K ACE Managed Funds.
